Leaf Litter

Leaf litter refers to a layer of dead leaves on the floor of the vivarium. Leaf litter provides visual barriers and hides for the vivarium inhabitants. Leaf litter also gradually breaks down, adding nutrients to the substrate, and sustaining healthy populations of microfauna, such as springtails and isopods, that not only provide a source of food for many vivarium inhabitants, but also aid in keeping the vivarium clean. The varieties of leaf litter JoshsFrogs sells - live oak, magnolia, and sea grape, are thicker, sturdier leaves collected from chemical-free areas, and hold up much longer in vivaria than most varieties of leaf litter.
