Amazon Milk Frog Care Sheet is an extensive care sheet on the care and breeding of Amazon Milk Frogs. These frogs have quickly grown in popularity in the USA, and are constantly in demand.

Amazon Milk Frogs (Captive Bred) – Trachycephalus resinifictrix – this is a much more basic care sheet on the popular Amazon Milk Frogs, written by well known tree frog breeder Mike Novy.

Red Eye Tree Frog (Captive Bred) – Agalychnix callidryas is a basic care sheet concerning the proper keeping of Red Eye Tree Frogs, written by well known tree frog breeder Mike Novy.

Tiger Leg Monkey Tree Frogs (Captive Bred) – Phyllomedusa hypochondrialis

CAPTIVE CARE INFORMATION

Scientific Name: Phyllomedusa Hypocondrialis

Common Name: Tiger Legged Monkey Tree Frog

Distribution: South American

Size: 2” – 2 ½”

Trade Availability: Somewhat common

 

HABITAT:

This tree frog is native to hot Savannah & dryer forest type habitats. When kept in captivity, they require a 10 gallon size terrarium for proper care for 2-3 adults.

 

CAPTIVE HABITAT:

Use full spectrum lighting 12-14 hours per day.

Provide several climbing areas on branches, logs & artificial plants.

Provide dark hiding places for this species.

 

TEMPERATURE:

Maintain day temperature range between 75-82 degrees F.

Maintain night temperature range between 70-74 degrees F.

Use a 25 watt heat lamp in well ventilated enclosures.

 

HUMIDITY:

This species requires low to moderate levels of humidity – 60% max.

Mist enclosure every few day.

Use only distilled water.

 

LIGHTING:

2% UVB is required for froglets 2 months & older, no more than 3% UVB.

**UV rays help eliminate excess bacteria growth (not saying bacteria will not grow in

the tank, but it will help lower it)

UVB is essential for frog’s growth.

 

FOOD:

As adults – ¼” crickets

*Adults may be offered small roaches (if you want), they should equal the same size as the cricket.

Do not feed wax worms.

Dust all food with Rep-Cal Herptivite & Rep-Cal Calcium w/Vitamin 3

***3 parts Herptivite to 1 part Calcium***

Red Eye Tree Frog (Captive Bred) – Agalychnis callidryas

CAPTIVE CARE INFORMATION

Scientific Name: Agalychnis Callidryas

Common Name: Red Eye Tree Frog

Distribution: Nicaragua

Size: 2” – 3”

Trade Availability: Common

 

HABITAT:

Tree dweller often found 25’ or higher in the canopy.

 

CAPTIVE HABITAT:

A 20 gallon high is suitable for 3 – 4 adults.

The bottom of the terrarium should be covered with Peat Sphagnum 2-3” w/1” Pea gravel under for drainage

Live plants – Pothos, Philodendron.

Branches to climb on.

Shallow dish of water (distilled water is recommended)

 

TEMPERATURE:

Daytime: no more than 82 degrees F

Nighttime: 68 – 70 degrees F

 

HUMIDITY:

Suggestion for the cover/lid is screen top covering 80% with Saran Wrap, glass or

plexiglass.

 

LIGHTING:

2% UVB is required for froglets 2 months & older, no more than 3% UVB.

**UV rays help eliminate excess bacteria growth (not saying bacteria will not grow in the tank, but it will help lower it)

Common Name: Amazon Milky Frog

Distribution: Amazon Basin

Size: 3” – 3 ½”

Trade Availability: Scarce, Captive Bred/Born

 

HABITAT:

Tree dweller often found on the bark of trees

 

CAPTIVE HABITAT:

A 20 gallon high is suitable for 2 – 3 adults.

The bottom of the terrarium should be covered with Peat Sphagnum (1/4 inch).

Shallow dish of water (distilled water is recommended)

Plant consisting of Pothos, Ficus and Philodendron.

It seems they enjoy branches hanging over water

 

TEMPERATURE:

Daytime: no more than 82 degrees F

Nighttime: 68 – 70 degrees F

 

HUMIDITY:
