- Coming from a reptile rehabbers info Review by Lisa

5.0 bulbs are more suitable for iguanas and can be used for temporary use for a beardie, in the event that there is no access to the 10.0 at the time. I wouldnt suggest more than a couple of months, and that is with outdoor basking. Beardies are diurnal desert reptiles that are baskers, They require 10 hrs of sunlight ,Temps up to 100 and UBV ( not UV) during the day to prevent MBD, and require a cooling spot on the other side of the tank at least 80 to 85 to escape the heat. The UVB bulbs available at Joshs are a great price. These bulbs put out certain lengths of UVB out. The florescent bulbs only reach 12 to 18 inches into a tank. So it would be best to use another bulbs ( read and ask about the output length of UVB) if you have a 75 gal enclosure, or a deep tank that the reptile is being kept in. Also, of course have to have the calcium. The two are detremental to the beardies health. Diet is as well ( Look Up MK salads to get healthy beardie recipies). 10.0 bulbs are suggested for beardies full time. Its best to have cage ( NO Tanks) or escape proof , and prdator proof corral, with shade to let the beardies set out for a few hours (granted there isnt any weed killer or insect killer, etc on the ground) to bask in the summer, to get optimum uvb and vitamin D intake. Owners sometimes dont realize that we are responsible for duplicating the habitat of the animals we own for their health and happiness. Being the most intelligent and social of the reptilles, the beardie is well worth the effort. As are all of the creatures we bring into our home. (Posted on 4/14/11)Quality
