Ficus elastica ‘Burgundy' Rubber Tree Plant is one of the most commonly kept varieties of Ficus.  In its natural habitat, this tree can grow to about 100 feet tall, however, indoors it is commonly kept at a much more manageable height of around 1-8 feet tall.  Since this plant is slow growing, it can be kept as a long term house tree.  It will grow faster and larger in bigger pots, and smaller and slower in smaller pots. Rich burgundy colored leaves can get 8-12” long and 4” wide. Place in bright light to enhance the dark burgundy coloring, but this plant does well in low light conditions too.  It is very easy to care for and will do fine if it is only watered when the soil becomes dry.  This plant is considered to be top of the list for air purifying plants!

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

If purchased very small, such as the size Josh’s Frogs sells them at, they can be used in a very large containers and terrarium gardens. Keep in mind, however, that this has potential to grow into a very large tree and will eventually need to be kept as a house plant.

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

At the small size that Josh’s Frogs sells it, this plant has proven to do great in vivariums and will generally be able to be kept in one for quite a while before it needs to be taken out and transplanted into a pot to be kept as a houseplant.

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home.
