I had a culture of these mailed to me (nearly 2000 miles away from Josh's Frogs HQ) and it arrived with enough living springtails to seed both my 18" cube tank and a 12" cube quarantine tank that is now doubling as a larger container for my springtail culture as the instructions on the culture suggest. Every week or so, I have added a few grains of generic brand white rice to each terrarium, and after about a month of having these guys, I have seen over a hundred springtails exposed in the open air between the two tanks (which leads me to believe that there must be at least that many hiding in the substrate still). I don't have any froglets to feed them too, but considering their size, I can see how they (the springtails) would be a perfect staple for the froglet diet (especially thumbnails). These guys also serve as great microflora control as I have seen the white mold on a piece of wood that I placed in my quarantine tank recede. They are hardy scavengers that you don't need to coddle. The price is worth the investment to have feeding security in your tank if your fruit fly cultures fail temporarily for one reason or another. Thanks Josh's Frogs!
