This kit was a lifesaver, literally. I purchased a couple vents with a kit of flightless melanogaster fruit fly cultures (1 started but not producing culture) from another company as my first dart frogs. In my neophyte naivete, I expected that unestablished fruit fly culture to sustain my frogs' diet. After driving an hour and a half in the middle of the night to purchase two hydei cultures from a somewhat local hobbyist to resolve my emergency temporarily, my order of this kit came through and my frogs were relieved to have a manageable-sized prey again. My nose was relieved by the noninvasive smell of the media that Josh's Frogs has developed, and I have had my first success with sustaining a healthy supply of fruit fly cultures and now have the problem of having more food than two small mouths can consume. I am now able to offer emergency-relief to my fellow, local hobbyists as we enter the long, cold months when it is difficult to ship fruit fly cultures across the country. I bought this kit in October 2005 and it's working great!Quality
I've only used about 1/4-1/3 of the media. Each fly culture I make is producing hundreds of flightless flies (no accidental fliers). I make a new culture every two weeks so I can't say how long they last, but I have had cultures go into a third "hatch" before tossing it from having just too many going.
I would highly recommend Josh's culture kit.
