About This Product

Pilea microphylla 'Artillery' is a native of Mexico and Brazil. It is also known as an Artillery Fern, although it is not actually a fern at all. It is somewhat similar to Pilea depressa ‘Baby Tears’, although not a vine. The glossy green leaves of the Artillery plant are less than half the size than those of Pilea depressa ‘Baby Tears’ and are round and plump. The male plant produces tiny, green flowers that “pop” to further disperse pollen, hence the name 'Artillery'. It is a fairly thin, fast growing plant that creates a nice canopy of foliage. It prefers well drained soil and doesn’t require much lighting and therefore considered a very easy plant to care for.

USDA Hardiness Zones 11-12

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

Due to its small size if pruned often, this plant is a great candidate for larger container gardens. It’s also a popular house plant due to its ease of care and attractive glossy green foliage with many small leaves. For this reason, it can take the place of many ferns but not require as much humidity.

Josh’s Frogs offers a wide variety of glass terrariums, container garden soils, drainage layers, and other supplies for all of your indoor gardening needs.

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

This plant is a very popular vivarium plant because of its foliage and since it does well in almost all conditions. It tolerates the high lighting and high moisture of a vivarium and will create a nice thick foliage canopy that can be placed in the middle to back areas of the tank. In the high humidity of the vivarium environment, it will shoot out many hair-like roots from the stem nodes and tends to grow more spindly and not as self-supporting.

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home.

ALL PLANTS ARE SHIPPED IN POTS WITH SOIL OR OTHER MEDIA UNLESS IT IS DEEMED NECESSARY TO SHIP BARE ROOT
