Some species of poison dart frogs will prefer the film canisters placed horizontally on the ground, as well. Try different levels of water in the film canisters until you find out what works best for the species of poison dart frogs in question. 5. 16 oz Tadpole Cups (100 pack)

Josh's Frogs recommends rearing poison dart frog tadpoles individually in 16 oz tadpole cups, due to their cannibalistic nature. The tadpole cup is initially filled with about 8 oz of tadpole tea for new tadpoles, then fill compltely with tadpole tea a week later. Evaporated water is replaced with distilled or reverse osmosis water.

6. 8 oz deli cup and lid x 10

The 8 oz deli cup and lid is where poison dart frog egg clutches will be incubated. Place the film canister containing eggs in the 8 oz container after pouring a small amount (less than an ounce) of tadpole tea into the bottom of the 8 oz deli cup - this will help prevent your poison dart frog eggs from drying out. The film canister can be attached to the side of the 8 oz deli cup with the suction cup. Attempt to keep the film canister in the same orientation it was in when the eggs were laid. Then, cover the deli cup with the lid and label the species/morph the eggs came from. Place the developing egg clutch in an area that will stay between 70 - 76F.

Sera Micron is a fish food originally developed for rearing fish fry, and makes a great supplemental food for poison dart frog tadpoles. Use Sera Micron to dust the HBH Frog and Tadpole BItes before feeding them to your poison dart frog tadpoles. The algaes, protein, and color enhancers contained in Sera Micron will go a long way in ensuring your poison dart frog tadpoles turn into colorful, healthy poison dart frogs.

Long a staple tadpole diet, HBH Frog and Tadpole Bites are a great protein source for poison dart frog tadpoles. 1. False Bottom (5 Quarts)

Josh's Frogs False Bottom is a green product, made from recycled materials. Josh's Frogs False Bottom is a very lightweight option for creating a false bottom, which serves to create a void for excess water to go (so it does not saturate the soil layer). It also wicks water slowly back into the substrate, allowing for a more humid environment. Additionally, Josh's Frogs False Bottom provides a large amount of surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow. These bacteria will work to metabolize wastes from the system, resulting in a cleaner environment.

2. Substrate Barrier

Simply put, the substrate barrier included in the kit is placed between the Hydroton and substrate layers in the vivarium to prevent the substrate from pushing down into the Hydroton. This keeps the substrate drier, improving growing conditions in the vivarium, as well as extending the life of the substrate. The substrate barrier can be cut or folded to fit in your specific enclosure.

3. Atlanta Botanical Garden (ABG) Mix (4 Quarts)

ABG mix is a premium substrate for tropical vivariums. A precise blend of tree fern fiber, charcoal, sphagnum peat, long fiber sphagnum, and fir bark, this substrate is capable of lasting several years when used properly. Originally perfected by the Atlanta Botanical Gardens of Atlanta, Georgia, this substrate will support a sizable population of microfauna while allowing plants to thrive. It is a good idea to wet the substrate before placing it in the vivarium.

4. Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss (100 Grams)

Long Fiber Sphagnum moss lasts a long time in the vivarium, and has natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. It is placed between the substrate and leaf litter layers in a vivarium to prevent the substrate from adhering to the frogs, and to increase the suitable environment for microfauna. The Long Fiber Sphagnum moss comes in an compressed brick, and will need to be expanded in water previous to use.

5. Magnolia Leaves

Leaf litter is an integral part of a naturalistic vivaria. It slowly breaks down, providing both organic food for the microfauna and plants in the tank. Leaf litter also provides hiding places and visual barriers for the larger inhabitants of the vivarium. It is the final layer in the vivarium.

6. Small Driftwood

Josh's Frogs vivarium wood is perfectly suited for use in humid vivaria. It will initially mold, but this mold will disappear within a couple weeks, and is not harmful to the vivarium inhabitants. Place the wood in the vivarium in a way that allows you to plant around/on it, provides additional usable space for the future vivarium inhabitants, and is visually appealing.

A native to Brazil, Aechmea chlorophylla is a bromeliad suitable for large vivaria, and will form a rosette 8-12" across and about 24" tall. Aechmea chlorophylla holds a decent amount of water, making it ideal for tadpole rearing.

Aechmea chlorophylla is an epiphyte in nature, and can grow attached to the background or hardscape in a naturalistic vivarium, or be planted in very well draining substrate. Aechmea chlorophylla should be planted on the background on in the back area of a vivarium.

Aechmea chlorophylla has moderate water needs, and should not have standing water on it's leaves. Water in the cup of the bromeliad should be flushed at least once a week. Aechmea chlorophylla has moderate to high light needs - under more intense light, Aechmea chlorophylla will display brighter colors, but typically remains a bright, pleasant green color. Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' is a cultivar of the well known carnivorous plant the Venus Flytrap. Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' is native to wetlands on the eastern coast of the United States. Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' makes a fascinating addition to any vivarium, but Josh's Frogs does not recommend keeping Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' with animals. Animals will disturb the plant, and these repeated disturbances wille eventually lead to the demise of Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry'. Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' also requires a winter dormancy period to thrive.

Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' will grow approximately 4-6" across in a vivarium, and makes a great foreground plant. Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' should be planted in the front or middle areas of a naturalistic vivarium.

Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' has moderate to high water needs. Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' does not appreciate saturated soil, but do not let it dry out! Provide moderate to high light levels for Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry'. More intense light will encourage your Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' to grow in a smaller, more bushy manner. Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' tends to sprawl horizontally to a width of about 4-6". Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' does not require air circulation. In a vivarium, Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' is best used as a foreground plant. Like all carnivorous plants, provide nutrient poor soil, such as a sand and peat mix. Dionaea muschipula 'King Henry' will also do quite well in stright sphagnum moss.
