Asarum maximum ‘Ling Ling’, also known as Panda Face Ginger due to its black and white blossoms that uniquely reminisce a panda, is a great ground cover plant with unique foliage. This rare member of the ginger family has dark-green, rounded heart shaped leaves with attractive patterns of light silver striations. It gets about 6” high and can slowly spread via underground rhizomes to create a nice ground cover. It prefers shaded areas with constantly moist soil. It tends to dry to quickly in direct sun and seems to require heavy watering.
USDA Hardiness Zones 7-9
With its attractive foliage, this plant would do great in a terrarium, as it does not grow too large and can easily be kept from spreading too much.
Josh's Frogs offers a wide variety of glass terrariums, container garden soils, drainage layers and other supplies for all of your indoor gardening needs.
Due to its love of moisture, this plant will do great in a vivarium, although it would prefer a more shaded area within it. It’s broad growing leaves provide shade and shelter for small creatures like dart frogs to take cover under.
As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home. Live plants from Josh's Frogs are treated only with products that are OMRI Listed© for use in organic production. Live plants may vary in color, size and appearance.
