Monstera siltepecana - Swiss Cheese Plant is part of the Araceae family of plants found in Mexico and Central America. It’s a epiphytic vine and is related to the Philodendron. What makes Monstera siltepecanam - Swiss Cheese Plant so special, is that the juvenile plant looks completely different than the mature adult plant.  The leaves of the young plant are elongated and have a silver color to them, whereas the leaves of the adult plant resemble more of a palm frond with pinnatifid or divided leaves.  Juvenile plants as they grow will also get holes in the leaves that resemble Swiss cheese. Other differences are the juvenile plants are terrestrial, whereas the adult plants are epiphytic climbers.  Monstera siltepecana – Swiss Cheese Plant is sometimes mistakenly confused with Epipremnum pinnatum 'Cebu Blue', but can easily be correctly identified by the hard ridge that runs along the stem of the ‘Cebu Blue’. Monstera stems are smooth. Coming from the rainforest, this plant prefers moist soil and part sun to shade. Bright light may cause leaf burn.

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplants:

Monstera siltepecana - Swiss Cheese Plant would do well as a houseplant or in a hanging basket.  It can be treated as any other typical philodendron or pothos would be treated, in that its vines can be left to hang or drape over a surface from the pot. It will also climb up a support.

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

This plant is a very popular vine for vivarium enthusiasts, as it will stay in its juvenile form, thus keeping its fairly small leaves.  It will grow fairly rapidly, but can be easily pruned smaller if it gets out of control.  It will thrive either in direct light or moderately shaded areas and prefers the constantly moist substrate that a vivarium offers.  If placed in a terrarium, keep well watered so that it doesn’t dry out.   

 

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home. Plants from Josh’s Frogs are specifically grown to be safe for use with animals. Live plants may vary in color, size and appearance.

Our policy covers all live plant shipments that fall under the following requirements:


If live plants shipped via 2-3 day service:



  • temperatures during transit do not exceed 85 degrees for 2 day delivery

  • temperatures during transit do not drop below 20 degrees for 2 day delivery

  • someone is present to accept the package when it is delivered on the first attempt


If live plants shipped via 1 day service: 



  • someone is present to accept the package when it is delivered on the first attempt

  • temperatures during transit do not drop below 10 degrees


Claims on Live Plant Orders


Due to the the nature of the product Josh's Frogs does not consider minor issues to be reason for a claim. Claims should only be placed for dead or heavily damaged plants. Josh's Frogs requires the following when placing claims on plants.




  • No refunds will be given for plants. If replacement is refused by Josh's Frogs, store credit will be given.

  • Contact Josh's Frogs within 24 hours of delivery.

  • Provide a picture of item(s) if requested, emailed to info@joshsfrogs.com.
