Oxalis regnellii 'Francis', also known as Purple Shamrock, is a bulb plant that produces bright purple triangular shaped leaves on tall, thin and delicate stems. It produces light lavender colored blooms and is a cultivar of Oxalis triangularis but has lighter purple leaves. It can grow to a height of 16" with a spread of 12"-15" and requires well drained, moist soil with partial shade. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves. This cultivar is more heat tolerant than most shamrocks and therefore makes it a better candidate to stay looking well in the summer heat. It is also very popular as a colorful, quick filling ground cover.

Foliage is sensitive to being moved or sudden changes in environment. Damaged foliage may be cut back to ground level and new foliage will start to appear within a week.

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

This plant will work well only for larger container gardens due to its fast growing height. It would look nice in a hanging baskets or as a houseplant where the foliage will cascade over the sides of the pot.
