Sansevieria laurentii, also known as Mother-in-Law’s Tongue or Snake Plant, is a uniquely shaped plant native to the drier areas of Sri Lanka.  It has an upright growth pattern with long, narrow, thick sword shaped leaves that form a point. Each leaf is edged in yellow and is twisted and wavy around the edges.  It has a shallow root system and is best allowed to be a little bit rootbound.  In lower light conditions, this plant will also need less water.  In brighter lighting, it can use more water, but in general it is better to keep this plant on the drier side.  It is therefore a commonly seen office, airport, or houseplant due to its ease of care.  Too much water will cause the plant to rot.  Mother-in-Law’s Tongue generally grows to be about 2-3 feet tall but can reach as high as 5 feet under excellent lighting.  Sansevieria zeylanica is a species that features dark green leaves with a lighter green to white striping pattern throughout.

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

This plant is only recommended for large container gardens or terrariums due to its larger size.  Since it grows slowly, it can be planted small and used for quite some time before growing too large.  It needs good drainage and soil on the dryer side or it will rot.  It makes an excellent, easy-to-care-for houseplant!

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

This plant is not recommended for dart frog vivariums or other vivariums on the wetter side that have high humidity levels, which may cause this plant to rot. Sansevieria prefer drier conditions and can be used in vivariums/terrariums/reptariums that are on the drier side, such as with Day or Crested Geckos. Leave in pot or plant directly in substrate

 
 

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home. Plants from Josh’s Frogs are specifically grown to be safe for use with animals. Live plants may vary in color, size and appearance

Our policy covers all live plant shipments that fall under the following requirements:


If live plants shipped via 2-3 day service:



  • temperatures during transit do not exceed 85 degrees for 2 day delivery

  • temperatures during transit do not drop below 20 degrees for 2 day delivery

  • someone is present to accept the package when it is delivered on the first attempt


If live plants shipped via 1 day service: 



  • someone is present to accept the package when it is delivered on the first attempt

  • temperatures during transit do not drop below 10 degrees


Claims on Live Plant Orders


Due to the the nature of the product Josh's Frogs does not consider minor issues to be reason for a claim. Claims should only be placed for dead or heavily damaged plants. Josh's Frogs requires the following when placing claims on plants.




  • No refunds will be given for plants. If replacement is refused by Josh's Frogs, store credit will be given.

  • Contact Josh's Frogs within 24 hours of delivery.

  • Provide a picture of item(s) if requested, emailed to info@joshsfrogs.com.
