An old-time favorite, Schlumbergera truncata-Christmas Cactus hails from the coastal mountains of southeastern Brazil where it grows epiphytically on rocks and trees. A common houseplant with a very long life, capable of living decades. It requires bright light and has moderate watering needs. It prefers moist soil but don't allow standing water on the leaves. Blooms twice a year, once in spring and again during the holiday season.

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

Schlumbergera truncata-Christmas Cactus can be planted in a container garden or large terrarium if given proper drainage and the correct soil. A very popular houseplant that makes and beautiful, showy display and the interesting leaf shape gives the plant interest when not in bloom.

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

Schlumbergera truncata-Christmas Cactus is great for tropical vivaria as long as it is not kept soaking wet and allowed to dry out occasionally. It's an epiphytic cacti and should be planted on the background or hardscape. It will grow into a large bush if not pruned so keep this in mind when planting. It does not require air movement as long as standing water is not present on it's leaves. Schlumbergera truncata-Christmas Cactus will grow fairly scaly, long leaves in a naturalistic vivarium.
