Vermiculite is a member of the phyllosilicate group of minerals, resembling mica in appearance. It has the remarkable ability to expand to many times its original volume when heated at 1,562-2,012°F. The process of heating vermiculite via a furnace chamber in a controlled manner is called exfoliation. The vermiculite expands, producing particles that are much larger in size than they were originally.
Crude vermiculite consists of golden and silver vermiculite which are carefully classified into many sizes. This vermiculite is 3-6mm.
